State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz sent two troubling emails to constituents after the most recent eruption of violence in Israel/Palestine. In his Oct. 12 email, Mr. Dinowitz dishonestly mischaracterized Jewish Voice for Peace, a group I have belonged to for almost a decade.

As we close out yet another Black History Month, let’s take a moment to celebrate the many contributions African-Americans have made to the country. They’ve done this despite discrimination and oppression — something even the Bronx, in the past, was not immune to.

New York City was built on the backs of working-class New Yorkers; people like my mother, Dorothy Mae Adams, a single mother who worked multiple jobs to support my five siblings and myself. She sacrificed everything for us, and I know that there are thousands of New Yorkers doing the same today in our city for their families.
