The 12th installment of the Pat Joyce Memorial Tournament was the latest reminder to Marty Joyce why he became a coach. Most of last week, Marty made several treks across the bridge with his St. Peter’s teams from River Edge, New Jersey, to compete in honor of his late brother. Fittingly, it was his school’s sixth grade team that rallied around the fallen firefighter’s nephew en route to securing the championship. more

The Manhattan College women’s basketball team has been a tough out in recent years in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. They showed it again with a 73-39 win over Rider last Saturday. But unfortunately, they found an even tougher challenger in the Fairfield Stags, who hung an 82-58 loss for Manhattan on Monday night. more

Over two months since Hamas terrorists launched an attack on Israel, the scars are very much present for two Manhattan College basketball players who are experiencing the secondhand effects of war while living away from their homeland. Playing back certain parts of Oct. 7, such as the horror stories relayed back to them from family and friends who lived it, is hard enough. Manhattan College on Tuesday dedicated the building that houses Smith Auditorium and the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers to Stephen J. Squeri, the American Express chair and chief executive. The building will don the name Squeri Hall. more

Through its Bronx Rise Leadership initiative, the Oyate Group has helped out impoverished people throughout New York City, including greater Riverdale. This Thanksgiving they distributed more than 2,000 frozen turkeys to combat food insecurity. more
