Peace workshop
The Sisters of Charity of New York will host a workshop, “Creating a Culture of Peace,” at the Convent of Mary the Queen, 35 Vark Street, in Yonkers. Registration begins at 1 p.m.
The workshop will be facilitated by Janet Chisholm, past national chair of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship and currently Peace Coordinator at Kirkridge Study and Retreat Center in Pennsylvania.
The workshop, to run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., is interactive and experimental. Attendees will learn new skills for personal and societal change.
There is no charge but offerings are appreciated.

Lehman concert
The Lehman College Chamber Players will perform in an autumn concert on the third floor of the music building on the college campus, 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, at 2 p.m.

Live music
The Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture’s Uptown Coffehouse, located at 4450 Fieldston Road, will host a performance of the Danny Kalb Trio, at 5 p.m.
The coffeehouse features performances by acoustic folk musicians. Mr. Kalb has played with blues greats John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters, and is a founding member of The Blues Project. He is a native of Mount Vernon.
Concert tickets are $15. Bronx Cultural Cards will be accepted.

Meet the artist
Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, will host a “meet the artist” event at 1 p.m.
The artist, Mauro Zamora, has an installation on display in the Sunroom Project Space at Wave Hill.
The event is free with paid admission to the grounds.

Piano performance
Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, will host a performance by Pianist Jeffrey Swann at 2 p.m. as part of its Hudson River Historic Concert Series.
The series features events that explore the tradition of touring European performers who made their mark on the American public using the River as a highway through New York State. Mr. Swann follows in the footsteps of the great virtuoso and teacher Joseph Lhévinne in a piano recital presented by that master in 1910 in Troy and Poughkeepsie, according to Wave Hill.
The program offers familiar and rare works by Anton Rubinstein, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Schubert, Chopin and Massenet.
Tickets, which include admission to the grounds, cost $15 for members, $24 for nonmembers and $21 for seniors over 65 and students. Advance purchase recommended.

Garlic event
Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, will host a “Garlic Celebration” from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Used over the centuries for its medicinal and culinary contributions, garlic is a root vegetable in the lily family. Participants can sample this versatile cousin to onions, leeks, chives and shallots — there are more than 300 varieties grown worldwide — during Wave Hill Café’s weeklong celebration. The menu, developed by Wave Hill caterer Great Performances, includes lemon and garlic scampi with cooked apple and pear dumplings, and green garlic fried chicken with chimmichuri and salt and garlic chips. The celebration continues through Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 12.
