THE BRONX Library Center, 310 E. Kingsbridge Road, will present the following upcoming musical events:
- The center will resume its Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series with a live performance by Chris Washburne and the SYOTOS Band, on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m. The group is known for its unique fusion of Afro-Cuban, Puerto Rican, Brazilian and Armenian jazz styles.
- On Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2:30 p.m., the center will hold an afternoon of live doo-wop music featuring The Valentinos. This group of Bronxbased musicians, which has been performing since the late 1950s, will entertain visitors with a musical hybrid of harmonious vocal styles. Both of these family-friendly shows are free and open to the public. For more information, call 718-579-4244.
LEHMAN CENTER for the Performing Arts will host the special holiday event “Navidad Para El Pueblo,” a Christmas celebration featuring the unique jíbaro music from the mountains of Puerto Rico, on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. The concert will feature Yomo Toro, whose parrandas have become a Lehman holiday tradition, as well as Puerto Rican folk music singer, songwriter and poet “El Topo” Antonio Caban Vale. The artists will be backed by the eclectic sounds of Zon Del Barrio, while 20 dancers will perform to a mosaic of rhythms, from a salsa navideña to a Carnaval finale with the arrival of the three Magi Kings. Seats for this show range in price from $30 to $45. The event will be held at Concert Hall, located on the campus of Lehman College, at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West. LATVIAN LUTHERAN Church, located at 254 Valentine Lane, in Yonkers, N.Y., will host a special concert of Latvian Christmas Cantatas, on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. This live show will feature performances by the Latvian Concert Choir and the Bronx Chamber Orchestra. Admission costs $25 per person and this fee includes a celebratory luncheon following the concert. For more information, call 773-551-5265.
WALKABOUT CLEARWATER Coffeehouse will continue its concert series with a special live performance by folk singer Kim and Reggie Harris, on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. This event will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 250 Bryant Ave., in White Plains, N.Y. General admission tickets cost $20 at the door, $17.50 if purchased in advance, $15 for students with ID and $10 for children 12 and younger. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and a pre-concert audience songfest will begin at 6:45 p.m. Coffee, tea, snacks and other refreshments will be available before the show and during intermission.
