According to the "taxi insider" show on AM 970 Saturday mornings, there are well over 200 currently operating wheelchair accessible cabs in NYC. All one has to do is call 311 and the cab is dispatched. The guy on the show said most cabs take less than 10 minutes to arrive. In light of this, why the push for a full fleet of wheelchair vehicles? Who is going to pay for it? The taxi industry is a private industry, and most cab owners barely make enough to feed their families. I say, if the gov't wants this unneccesary thing, let them pay for it with grants of money, much like they gave Wall Street.
