Russian expansionism through use of violence and aggression cannot be condoned. Russia did this in Georgia (2008) and Crimea (2014) and now is closing in on Ukraine via its proxies in Eastern Ukraine. While Engel is to be commended for supporting sovereignty and democracy in Ukraine, I cannot do so, because the same Engel supports aggression and ethnic cleansing in Karabagh by approving Armenia's military occupation and ethnic cleansing in Karabagh, sovereign soil of neighboring Azerbaijan as confirmed by international law and many U.N. resolutions condemning Armenia.

Then there is the issue of the alleged Armenian Genocide which Engle promotes to unsuspecting public as the real thing. Genocide is a long-discredited political claim. Most recently, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) refuted it in its Dec 17, 2013 verdict on Perincek vs Switzerland that "[t]he existence of a 'genocide', which was a precisely defined legal concept, was not easy to prove". The ECHR "doubted that there could be a general consensus… given that historical research was, by definition, open to discussion and a matter of debate, without necessarily giving rise to final conclusions or to the assertion of objective and absolute truths". Thus, the ECHR created a legal precedent of inadmissibility of any comparison between the Holocaust and the Armenian claims; the latter lacks what the former clearly has: concrete historical facts, clear legal basis, and existence of the "acts had been found by an international court to be clearly established".

Wartime tragedy and suffering engulfed all the peoples of the area during WWI, not just the Armenians. Besides, Armenians were never totally blameless, innocent bystanders, as they deceptively claim. My father's entire family was killed by the Armenian gangs and I do not find my pain in the deceptive and fallacious Armenian narrative; neither can millions of Turks today. Armenians conveniently ignore the many Armenian rebellions, countless acts of terrorism, treason, greedy territorial demands and the immense Turkish suffering they caused before, during and after WWI.

The verdict of genocide can only be reached by an "competent tribunal" which is the international Court of Justice in Den Haag created for this purpose by the United Nations. There is no genocide verdict passed by any competent tribunal on the Armenian claims. Any statement, therefore, that alleges that the Armenian genocide is an undisputable fact is fallacious and unacceptable. If you doubt these assertions, then please read these lines from someone in the know, George M. Lamsa, a missionary well known for his research on Christianity, in The Secret of the Near East, The Ideal Press, Philadelphia 1923, p 133:

"…In some towns containing ten Armenian houses and thirty Turkish houses, it was reported that 40,000 people were killed, about 10,000 women were taken to the harem, and thousands of children left destitute; and the city university destroyed, and the bishop killed. It is a well- known fact that even in the last war the native Christians, despite the Turkish cautions, armed themselves and fought on the side of the Allies. In these conflicts, they were not idle, but they were well supplied with artillery, machine guns and inflicted heavy losses on their enemies…."
