THE BLUE Door Gallery, located at 13 Riverdale Ave., in Yonkers, presents “Tribute,” a pair of special summer exhibitions, which are now on display through Thursday, Sept. 9. “Urban Folk Carvings,” a retrospective of sculpture work by Bill Weinstein, features many of the late artist’s handcrafted figures that were made out of scrap wood and various found treasures. “Capturing Memories in Art,” which honors the legacies and visual narratives revealed in art, brings together a collection of work that provides a visual story and voice for those who otherwise might not have been able to share their life experiences or pay homage to a loved one. This portion of the exhibit features work by two Riverdale residents, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame photographer Gene Shaw and talented ceramist Mara Gross. The gallery is open on Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., as well as Fridays from 1 to 6 p.m. For more details, call 914-375-5100 or go to www. bluedoorgallery.org. THE HUDSON River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave., in Yonkers, N.Y., presents the major new exhibition “Richard Deon: Paradox and Conformity,” which is now on display through Sunday, Sept. 5. Hudson Valley artist Richard Deon has spent two decades exploring the visual style employed by textbook illustrators from the 1950s and he found inspiration in a pastime familiar to many inattentive students — doodling, or the alteration of school books during class. Drawing on their methods, Mr. Deon imposes his own interpretations — aesthetic isolation and dislocation, misidentification and nonsensical juxtapositions — to place viewers in puzzling territory, where a seemingly familiar textbook image becomes a conflicting, unresolved pictorial absurdity. This exhibition includes more than 30 of the artist’s paintings, ranging from monumental banners to easelsized canvases, as well as small-scale inkjet prints from three different graphic series. For more information, call 914-963-4550. THE RIVERDALE gallery of Elisa Contemporary Art, located at 5622 Mosholu Ave., presents the new summer-season group exhibition “Emerged,” which is now on display through Sunday, Sept. 12. The installation celebrates the creative visions of five emerging artists from the local Metropolitan area, including Michael Barletta, Yasemin Kackar-Demirel, James Chen-Feng Kao, Krzysztof Pastuszka and Rosa Ruey. Within the exhibit, visitors will meet new faces, encounter fresh ideas and enter many whimsical and inspiring worlds — both real and imagined — that have been created by these young artists. The exhibit can be seen on Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by appointment. For more details, call 212-729-4974.
