Articles need more research

Posted

To the editor,

I have found that a lot of the pieces that are getting published lack the necessary research that is required when publishing a story for the public to read. For instance, the piece entitled “City silently sets up emergency housing” (June 2) has an enticing subject but leaves the reader wondering about the details: How big is the ‘housing facility’ at 2810 Webb Ave. that is home to 30 different people? Does it have 30 bedrooms? One bedroom? How many square feet is the building? Would it pain the writer to look at city bylaws and write what the laws state for creating this type of establishment at 2810 Webb Ave.? Is it zoned properly? By having 30 people living in this establishment, does it violate fire codes?

The small details like these make a huge difference. They do not only give perspective for the reader, but they also show that the story has been thought out and well-researched.
