1. Police said a one-year-old girl died in her crib at 3340 Giles Place Sunday.
Officers said her father dialed 9-1-1 after finding her face down and unresponsive. First responders pronounced her dead at 9:07 a.m.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. Police believe the death was accidental.
2. Thief stabs senior
A 62-year-old woman wound up in Saint Barnabas Medical Center after police said a 27-year-old man punctured her lung with a knife while stealing her pocketbook outside 161 W. 231st St., at around noon on Jan. 23.
Officers said the 27-year-old man stabbed the woman four times in the back while she was walking home. He then removed the pocketbook from around her neck and ran north on Bailey Avenue.
A witness chased the man and retrieved the wallet before the suspect ran into 3300 Bailey Ave., police said.
Officers interviewed tenants of the building, who helped identify the suspect.
Police said they then knocked on the 27-year-old’s door, recovered a knife from his jacket pocket and arrested him.
He was charged with first-degree assault and robbery.
3. Robbers wield bat
Three women surrounded a 21-year-old woman near the corner of Bailey Avenue and Summit Place at around 2 a.m. Saturday and used a plastic bat to steal $50 from her, according to police.
Officers said the women struck the 21-year-old with the bat, which bruised her left eye.
The victim told police the trio didn’t utter a word during the crime.
The case remains open.
4. Men swipe iPhone
A 21-year-old man told police three men approached him near 5195 Broadway Sunday and punched him in the face after he initially refused to hand over his cell phone.
Officers said a struggle ensued and one of the men grabbed the victim’s $300 iPhone 4s.
The suspect then ran into the Marble Hill Houses complex, police said.
The case remains open.
5. Looter targets cars
Police said a man broke into two cars parked near 3873 Orloff Ave. and drove off in a 2005 Lincoln Town Car sometime between 11 a.m. on Jan. 21 and about noon on Jan. 22.
When Nyll Management reported that the company’s car had been stolen, officers said they began reviewing video surveillance of the area.
Police said video captured a man breaking into a 2006 Ford Mustang and a 1999 Chrysler before he stole the Lincoln Town Car with a camera, radio, GPS and antenna inside.
The case remains open.
