Big turnout for Chabad’s 20th anniversary party
Chabad Lubavitch of Riverdale, located at 535 W. 246th St., celebrated its 20th anniversary on Jan. 14. More than 250 people gathered for a gala dinner at the New York Botanical Garden, according to Chabad of Riverdale. It was hosted by Rabbi Levi Shemtov and Sorah Shemtov. Among those recognized at the event were guests of honor Ilene and Neil Leibowitz, who were recognized for their commitment to Chabad, as well as to the greater Jewish community; Vicky and Raphael Nadel, Chabad of Riverdale’s Parents of the Year; and Mayer and Margaret Fried, Holocaust survivors who Chabad calls Keepers of the Flame, “for their ability to overcome tragedy and devastation, inspiring all of those around them.” The evening also included a video presentation on the history of Chabad of Riverdale and featured live musical entertainment by the Pay Daled band.
