Police said a man wielding what appeared to be a box cutter stopped a woman walking up the stairs in her 2800 University Ave. building and made off with $400 in jewelry Saturday afternoon.
The man approached the woman between the fourth and fifth floors, exposed the alleged box cutter and demanded the woman give him her purse, cash and an ankle bracelet on her right leg, police said. The man took a piece of gold jewelry — worth $400 — and fled down the flight of stairs, according to police.
The case remains open.
2. Electronics stolen
A 49-year-old woman told police she found the screen on her rear bedroom window slashed and several electronics missing from her 3065 Sedgwick Ave. apartment when she returned home at 2 a.m. on May 23.
Police said the woman reported the window connected to her fire escape had been forced open and that its screen was cut. Multiple drawers were open throughout the apartment, according to police, who said the woman reported two iPads, a Dell Mini Notebook, a Dell laptop, ten Fossil watches, a GPS, an iPod and two 14-carat gold necklaces missing.
The case remains open.
3. Apartment ransacked
A 41-year-old woman reported someone had ransacked her 3834 Bailey Ave. apartment on May 24.
The woman told police that she left with a slam lock on the front door and all apartment windows locked when she went to work at 7 a.m. Police said she told them she returned home to an open door and an apartment that looked like someone had rifled through it. She didn’t report anything stolen.
The case remains open.
4. Fire escape intruder
Police said a 23-year-old woman called at 10:20 p.m. on May 25 to report that someone had crawled into her 120 W. 228th St. apartment from a locked kitchen window that connected to her fire escape.
The woman said she wasn’t sure if the window was forced open, but that a door she left locked was open when she returned. Police said someone seemed to have pilfered through her bedroom but that the woman didn’t believe anything was stolen.
The case remains open.
5. Couple charged
Police said they arrested a common law couple at 1:15 p.m. on May 21, after the duo reported that a fight that began late at night on May 18 turned physical in their 3834 Bailey Ave. home.
A 43-year-old woman told police that her 40-year-old boyfriend began punching her at 2 p.m. on May 19, leaving her arm with lacerations.
The boyfriend told officers his significant other picked up a knife during the fight and slashed his right arm.
She was charged with a felony assault. He was charged with a misdemeanor assault.
