Clean up 235th Street bridge

Posted

To the editor:

The poor condition of the pedestrian bridge at West 235th Street over the Henry Hudson Parkway certainly earned its March 27 “Eyesore of the Week” spot. I also read with interest Mike Gold’s piece (“A Job for Superman!”) about how to fix the problems with the bridge.

Fortunately, neither Superman nor an opinion piece in The Press are usually required to call attention to issues such as graffiti and crumbling steps on the bridge. Readers should be aware that damage and vandalism on the bridge can and should be reported by calling 311 or by filling out a form online at www.nyc.gov/311.

The Department of Transportation typically responds within a couple of business days and provides an ETA for further action. This time was clearly an exception. I reported the current graffiti condition on the bridge in early January. DOT stated that they were delayed in removing it by the prolonged presence of snow piled on the bridge.

Hopefully all the attention on these pages will expedite resolution of these issues.
