Committee nixes investigation

The filtration monitoring committee rebuffed Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz's call for a formal resolution asking the City Council to hold hearings into the cost overruns at the Croton filtration plant.

Though he agreed that the cost overruns are troubling, Councilman Oliver Koppell stopped short of calling on the monitoring committee to pass the resolution, saying that he "wants further inquiry" but he is "not committed yet" as to what kind of an investigation would be most effective.

Community Board 8 Chairman Tony Cassino suggested the monitoring committee call on the City Council to begin hearings, but he was met with a chilly response. Committee chairman Greg Faulkner did not even ask for a vote.
