The victim said her boyfriend hit her numerous times in the face and back and stole her cell phone.

The suspect, a 22 year old, was arrested the next day and charged with felony assault.

2. Highway DWI

A 49-year-old man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 16, near the intersection of the Major Deegan Expressway and the Mosholu Parkway.

Police said an officer, who was responding to a single-car accident at the location, noticed the defendant had watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

The defendant had been driving a 2004 Saturn.

When asked, the defendant stated that he had been drinking, police said.

3. Vacation ruined

A Kingsbridge man discovered that his car was stolen at about 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, near the intersection of West 238th Street and Irwin Avenue.

The victim told police he had just returned from a month-long vacation when he realized the vehicle was gone.

Police said there was no broken glass in the area and the car could have been taken at any point between Dec. 22 and Jan 21.

The case remains open.

4. Biker wins

A 17-year-old boy told police that at around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, he was the victim of an attempted robbery, in front of 5885 Broadway.

The victim stated he was riding his bike on Broadway when three males approached and impeded his progress by grabbing the handles of his bike. One of the men told the victim to get off the bike and displayed a knife, the victim told police.

There was a short struggle and the victim was able to ride away, according to police.

The case remains open.

5. Storefront shattered

At around 4 a.m. on Jan. 16, police responded to a break-in at 7 Knolls Crescent.

A witness, who lives across the street, told police he heard glass breaking and, when he looked out his window, he saw a tall, thin man in black clothing jumping through the shattered storefront.

Police noted that location’s security gate had not been pulled down.

When the property’s owner arrived, she noticed $120 missing from a cash register. She also estimated that the broken glass panel was worth more than $250.

The case remains open.
