Kingsbridge, Oct. 18 — A one-alarm fire destroyed the top floor of 3449 Irwin Ave. early Thursday morning. All residents of the three-story house escaped without injury.
The FDNY received a call at 7:51 a.m. Engine 52, Ladder 46 first responded. Accordiong to the FDNY, 60 firefighters from 12 units responded and the blaze was under control by 8:31 a.m.
Battalion Chief Steve O’Donnell of Battalion 27 said the fire was heavy when firefighters arrived, but all of the building’s occupants were either not home at the time of the fire or evacuated on their own.
A firefighter on the scene said one firefighter had a small injury on his hand, but it was not serious.
The fire originated on the third floor and is still under investigation, according to the FDNY.
