Equestrian Center Mustangs fall to Robert E. Hill Leaders

In a dramatic back-and-forth game, the Robert E. Hill Realty Leaders defeated the Riverdale Equestrian Center Mustangs, 13-6, behind outstanding pitching by Tabitha Acevedo and Kristen Izquierdo. 

The Leaders fell behind early with some timely hits by Mustangs’ Sommer Queely and Emily O’Reilly, who also pitched a great game. 

The Leaders roared back, however, with a strong offense sparked by Alana Pons’ 3-run home run, consistent hitting from Sarah Baum (3 for 3) and clutch at-bats by Lia Gordon (2 RBIs). Outstanding defense by Acevedo, Pons, Emma Schreibstein and Aleena Waldron sealed the deal for the Leaders.

Angels slip by Kubs

The Riverdale City Grill Angels beat the Kubs, 7-5, on May 16, at Kelly Field.

Angels pitchers Samantha Torres, Jakara Yelity,and Christina Roldan combined to keep the Angels in the game giving up only 3 runs on the mound in the first 5 innings.

Emily Bernstein scored the first run for the Kubs, but the game was quickly tied up with a 2-out RBI single by Angels’ first baseman Allison Gelman.

Laura Saer struck out a couple of the Angels’ big hitters to keep the game close. Samantha Simkin walked in the third inning and Elle Perlman got a base hit. Samantha Torres followed with a monster blast deep to the outfield for a 3-run homer. The Angels added 2 more runs in the fifth on a 2-out triple by Crystal Medina. 

These extra runs proved to be very helpful when Kubs’ first baseman and power hitter Sophie Pickman hit a 2-run blast in the top of the sixth to bring the Kubs within a pair of runs. Angels’ pitcher Jakara Yelity closed out the game by striking out the last 2 batters.

Bruins lose, but slam back

The Huskies handed the home team Bruins their first loss of the season in a close 8-7 game at Kelly Field, on May 16. 

But the Bru-Crew rebounded in a big way three days later with a dramatic 9-7 win over the Kubs. 

On May 16, the Bruins scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning off several walks and hits by Liandry Almonte and Caitlyn McEntire.
