Florence Slosberg loved living in Riverdale

Florence Loraine Slosberg, wife of Bernard H. Slosberg, of blessed memory, and daughter of Paula and Phillip Schwartz, of blessed memory, passed away unexpectedly on July 10.  She was 84.  

Ms. Slosberg is survived by her three loving daughters, Anita Comite (Stephen), Janet Fried (Brad) and Barbara Kaufman (Bruce).  She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Matthew, Elliot and Alison Comite, Perry and Audrey Fried, and Rachel and Daniel Kaufman.

Ms. Slosberg received her undergraduate degree in Health and Physical education from Hunter College in 1951.  She received her Masters in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Dance from Florida State University.  Before having a family, she taught P.E. at Ramaz H.S. and coached the girls basketball team. When her daughters were older, she did part-time teaching and substitute teaching in city high schools.

Ms. Slosberg’s passion was dance and the arts. She loved Broadway shows and all forms of dance and music. She played tennis, went folk dancing, and taught ballroom dance at
Fred Astaire studios. She enjoyed ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance.  She loved all forms of dance as both a participant and a spectator.

She was happily married to Bernard H. Slosberg, of blessed memory, for almost sixty years. For 57 years, she loved living in Riverdale, where she had many friends. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her kind, gentle, caring manner, sweet, outgoing personality, love of the arts and her smile. Funeral services took place at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, New York.
