How to achieve a Dem landslide

Posted

To the editor,

Any suggestion that the ultimate Democratic presidential nominee should pick a Republican as running mate is  politically absurd. While I continue to believe that those who pushed for an early Hillary Clinton coronation should have been more cautious and not rushed to judgment, and while I believe that Sen. Bernie Sanders is on the verge of running  up some impressive results in caucuses and primaries yet to come, Clinton will probably  be the nominee.

If she is, her first task will be to win over activist  Sanders supporters. She must have  a vigorous, progressive  running mate to do that, preferably one who can help her to carry a major state. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio would be someone to consider. So would Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, who would bring to the table his great debating skills, or Senator Casey of Pennsylvania or Sen. Bennett of Colorado.

Democrats need not just a win, they need a landslide  of historic proportions to recover the gerrymandered House of Representatives — something not seen since FDR ran in 1936 or LBJ in 1964.
