1. Teen stands up to robbers

A 13-year-old boy stood up to a pair of would-be robbers on a basketball court last week, when he refused to hand over his phone.

The teen had just finished playing a game of basketball on the corner of W. 238th Street and Tibbett Avenue on Jan. 11, when two older boys, ages 14 and 15, approached him and demanded he hand over his phone.

When he refused, the alleged assailants began punching him in the face before fleeing the scene, police said.

The two suspects were arrested later in the evening in front of 3050 Corlear Ave. and will likely be charged with robbery, police said.

2. Apartment burglarized

Burglars raided an apartment in Kingsbridge and stole $4,500 in cash, police said.

The front door of a 45-year-old man’s apartment at 3061 Heath Ave. had been locked when an unidentified burglar or burglars broke in at around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 9, police said.

This case is open to detectives.

3. With friends like these

A man accused his friend of stealing his car, according to police, who have arrested the suspect.

The owner of the car told officers his friend stole his car keys from his apartment on Jan. 11. The friend then took the 2008 Audi sedan, which was parked on Bailey Avenue and W. 238th Street, for a joy ride at around 3:20 a.m. the following day, police said. The case is closed to arrest.

4. Stolen car found

A man who said his car was stolen when he left it with the keys inside saw his car found by police a day later—also with the keys inside.

The owner of the 1999 Honda Civic said he left his car, with the keys inside, parked on the corner of Riverdale Avenue and W. 236th Street on Jan. 10.

Police found the car the next day, parked in front of 3520 Cambridge Ave., with the keys in the ignition and the engine running.

This case is closed to investigation.

5. Credit cards stolen from car

A man left his car unlocked near the Henry Hudson Parkway and had four credit cards stolen at a result, according to police.

They said the victim, 67, left his car parked in front of 3616 Henry Hudson Parkway, in the evening of Jan. 14. When he returned the next day, the wallet he had left inside the car was gone, the man told police. There was no visible damage to the car, police said.

This case is open to police.
