Judge Sidney Asch was an educator; politician and writer

He and Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau became good friends when both were Riverdalians and Mr. Asch never refused a request to swear-in the long-time prosecutor.

Mr. Asch was predeceased by his wife,  Amy Cohen Asch, in 2004. Stricken with Parkinson's disease, he moved to an assisted living apartment in Manhattan in 2007. He died just three months after transferring to a North Carolina facility near the home of his daughter, Nancy.

He is survived by his daughters, Jane Asch, a doctor in New York City, Nancy Asch, a music teacher in Asheville, North Carolina, Nancy’s partner Beth Heinberg, and his granddaughter Emily Asch.

The family requests that any donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
