Family of murdered Kingsbridge man mourns

An argument between two Kingsbridge residents resulted in one of them shooting and killing the other in the early hours of Sunday, according to law enforcement authorities.

They say Jason Delgado, 29, of University Avenue shot Roderick Romney, 24, of Reservoir Avenue once in the throat area with a .38-caliber revolver around 4:58 a.m., killing him.

After the shooting in front of 2766 University Ave., officers from the 50th Precinct conducted a canvass of the neighborhood. Once a witness identified Mr. Delgado, police arrested him and the Bronx District Attorney’s Office charged him with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

While full details of the moments before the shooting were unclear, authorities said the suspect and the victim had an argument while leaving El Mangu Sabroso Restaurant at 80 W. Kingsbridge Road. Police say while the men walked away from the restaurant, Mr. Delgado told Mr. Romney he would be back, and entered his apartment on University Avenue.

When Mr. Delgado returned, he shot Mr. Romney and fled the scene. Emergency personnel transported Mr. Romney to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m.

Mr. Romney’s death marked the first murder in the 50th Precinct this year.

After Mr. Delgado’s arrest, officers found the revolver allegedly used in the shooting under a vehicle parked near the scene of the crime.

Police say Mr. Delgado was previously charged for assault, in 2004.
