State Sen. Jeffrey Klein helped launch the 12-question online survey to document how often third through twelfth-graders encountered cyberbullying. The study was taken by nearly 10,000 students in 350 schools across the state.
Mr. Klein has introduced legislation that would make “bullycide” — or cyberbullying that pushes someone to commit suicide — a crime punishable under manslaughter statues, which he aims to pass before the legislative session ends on Thursday, June 21.
The census revealed that 70 percent of students also support making cyberbullying a crime, according to a press release from Mr. Klein’s office.
