The Department of Sanitation has added two garbage baskets on West 238th Street at the behest of Councilman Oliver Koppell.
Because of a litter problem in the area, Mr. Koppell requested that Sanitation replace a garbage basket at Greyston Avenue at West 238th Street and add an additional basket in the area. Sanitation replaced that basket and added another one to Fieldston Road at West 238th Street.
“I anticipate that the streets around West 238th Street will be cleaner because of these added litter baskets. I would caution people, however, not to use the baskets for the disposal of household garbage, as this will cause them to overflow and Sanitation to remove them,” Mr. Koppell said in a press release.
The Department of Sanitation also recently removed trash, rocks and tree limbs from the step street that connects Gale Place with Bailey Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park West at the behest of Mr. Koppell’s office.
The Department of Transportation also fixed the lights along that step street, a project which Mr. Koppell said has been delayed for a long time.
“Now the steps are much safer at night and less of a tripping hazard,” Mr. Koppell said in a press release.
