“We just had a tough game today,” said Nolan Behlke, 12. “But, I think we had a good season. I thought we played really well.”

Shortstop Feldman said that the high expectations the team placed on itself made the loss particularly tough to swallow. 

“We had the best record in the league, obviously it’s tough to lose the championship game.”

Braceballers win big exclusive

The Braceballers beat the Exclusives 5-4 to win the Minor Division championship, on Saturday at the David A. Stein Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy, MS/HS 141 field. 

Highlights of the game for the Braceballers included a 3-hit pitching shutout for C.J. Wise, including 9 strikeouts. Wise also went 2 for 3 at the plate, driving in 3 runs and scoring 1. 

Jared Lewis also had a strong day with the bat for the champs, going 2-2, with 2 RBI. 

Sam Heskett started at the mound for the Exclusives. He held off the BraceballersS bats for two innings and had 7 Ks on the day. Richie Gonzalez came on in relief for the Exclusives and finished strongly with 8 strikeouts. 

“We feel very proud of ourselves because of all the hard work we had to put in,” said Braceballer Jacob Schnieber.

Teammate Chrisopher Wise agreed that the win felt very good.

“I have been playing for three years and finally, I got a championship. I am going to jump up and down with my teammates.”

Registration open for Riverdale Soccer Club

The Riverdale Soccer Club is registering players for its fall 2012 season for boys and girls born between 1998 and 2006. The season will run from Saturday, September 8 through Sunday, November 18. 

There are three programs, all of which will take place at Seton Park, located at West 232nd Street and Independence Avenue. 

The Peewee Instructional Program, for boys and girls born in 2005 and 2006, will meet on Saturday mornings.
