Missed chance on the economy

To the editor,

I agree with Rep. Eliot Engel that President Barack Obama’s proposed budget has many positive priorities (Political arena, Feb. 5). It’s a shame that Mr. Obama did not push for them during the first two years of his presidency.

For instance, if he had gotten the Democratically controlled Congress to pass an infrastructure bill which would have created many jobs, that would have provided a significant boost to the economy, then the Democrats probably would not have lost control of Congress.

Also, third grader Miriam Gold’s letter explaining that if we don’t stop polluting our environment, we will destroy all the food sources we need to survive was excellent (“Nature is all around us,” Feb. 5). She’s already a better thinker and writer than most adults.
