I wish I were a hummingbird
with bright red beak and swallow tail curved
I’d fly from flower to flower gathering nectar with my beak
In your lovely garden by the creek
And flit by the blue hammock where you sleep
I would not disturb you, no my dear
I’d fly real close, but have no fear
I would not frighten you or make you sad
as I feast on orchids, hibiscus, bromeliads
I’d flutter my wings and dance and dance
to get your attention just perchance
you’d see the way my feathers shine
and smile at me just one time
