1. Would-be thieves jump man

A 33-year-old man attempted to enter his apartment at 213 W. 238th St. on Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. 

Police said that as the victim was about to enter his apartment, three men jumped on him from behind. 

According to police, the perpetrators attempted to snatch the victim’s chain from his neck during the scuffle, but were unsuccessful. 

After their plan to rob the victim was foiled, the men fled down Broadway. 

Numerous cameras were present at the scene of the crime, according to police. They said that two of the men who attempted to rob the victim were in their twenties. The third suspect’s age was unknown. The men were believed to be about 6 feet tall.

According to police, one suspect was wearing a red hat with black shorts at the time of the crime while another suspect was wearing a white tank top with blue jeans. The third perpetrator was wearing a red tank top or t-shirt with blue jeans, police said.

The case is under investigation. 

2. Restaurant burglary

A restaurant owner at 3652 Bailey Ave. told police that he closed his Latin eatery on Sept. 24 at around 11 p.m. 

When the 47-year-old owner returned at 6 p.m. the next day, he discovered that someone had broken into the restaurant from the back of the building, police said. They suspect that the perpetrator entered the restaurant from the back of the roof.

Approximately $100 was taken from the register and $1,500 was taken from the safe. 

Detectives are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area. No arrests have been made. 

3. Mystery cell phone bill

Police said that on Sept. 26 at 10 p.m., a 35-year-old man at 254 Arlington Ave. reported receiving a letter from Verizon stating that he owed over $1,300 for past cell phone charges.

According to police, the man did not open the wireless account and did not know who was responsible for doing so.

The grand larceny case is open to detectives. 

4. Car break-in 

Police said that on Sept. 23 at noon, a tenant of 3750 Hudson Manor Terrace parked his car. 

When the driver returned to move the car at 3 p.m., several items were missing from the vehicle.
