Arson suspected in deli fire

1. An unidentified arsonist is suspected of setting fire to a new deli on the corner of Manhattan College Parkway and Broadway in the evening of Sept. 11, while people were inside, police said. 

No injuries were reported from the 9 p.m. fire at the Gourmet Deli and Bagel, located at 5993 Broadway. 

This case is closed to police, but has been sent to the FDNY for investigation.

 

Robberies of the week

2. A 61-year-old man was robbed by three assailants in Spuyten Duyvil at 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 11, police say.

The alleged victim was walking from the Spuyten Duyvil train station, when the suspects came up behind him and stole the items from his pockets, police said. 

Items stolen included cash, credit cards and insurance cards, totaling in $300 of value. 

This case is open to investigation.

 

3. In another case in Kingsbridge, CUNY police helped capture a robbery suspect near 88 W. 197th St. 

A 28-year-old suspect grabbed another man’s bag and tried to flee, but the victim, 33, pursued, police said. The suspect flashed a knife at the victim-turned-pursuer, dropped the bag and tried to flee again, police said. 

The victim flagged down a CUNY officer who was nearby and eventually caught the suspect. 

This case is closed to detectives.

 

Items stolen from cars

4. A 21-year-old woman’s car was broken into in front of 469 W. 261st St. on Sept. 9, police said.

There was no visible damage to the 2000 Honda’s car locks, windows or doors, police said. An unknown suspect had gotten into the car and stolen $620 of property, police said. 

 

This case is open to detectives.
