St. Gabriel’s

wins in CYO

St. Gabriel School defeated rival St. Margaret of Cortona 41-38 in a well-played Catholic Youth Organization basketball game.

St. Gabriel’s narrowly led for most of the contest, but a strong St. Margaret team tied the game with several minutes to play.

St. Gabriel’s went ahead by a basket with 20 seconds to play and took a 3-point lead on a clutch free throw by Ashley Martinez, sealing the victory. St. Gabriel’s Elizabeth Curcio played superbly on both sides of the ball, scoring 19 points. Anna and Morgan Timmons combined for 10 points, and Elizabeth Moynihan had 6 and Samantha Ramos, 5 points. Courtney Esteves and Sommer Queally played well off the bench.

The win was especially satisfying for the eighth grade St. Gabriel’s girls who have never beaten St. Margaret in their CYO careers.
