Catch Del Rosario in action before season ends

With just three regular-season games left, and just one at home, your chances of catching Lehman College women basketball wunderkind Amely Del Rosario in action are quickly diminishing.

Del Rosario, the reigning City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Player of the Year who led Lehman to the CUNYAC championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament last season, will end her career as one of the greatest – if not greatest – women’s basketball players in Lehman history when all is said and done.

Your last chance to catch her and the red-hot Lightning—they have won 10 straight conference games and sit in second place in the CUNYAC standings with a 12-2 mark—will be Thursday, Feb. 16 when the Lightning hosts Purchase in a non-conference game. After that Del Rosario and the Lightning will be off to defend their CUNYAC title in the conference tournament which will be held at City College with the quarterfinals slated for Feb. 18. The semifinals will follow on Feb. 21 with the championship set for Saturday Feb. 24.

Lehman men make their move

The Lightning men’s basketball team is also playing its best ball of the season having won their last seven straight conference games and are currently sitting pretty with a 14-8 overall record and a 9-4 mark in the CUNYAC, good for third place, a half game behind CCNY for second.

Lehman has already completed its home schedule but has two conference road games remaining, Friday night, Feb. 10, at unbeaten College of Staten Island (14-0) and Monday night at Hunter. The men’s portion of the CUNYAC Tournament gets underway with the quarterfinals on Sunday, Feb. 19 at CCNY. The semifinals will commence on Wednesday, Feb. 22 with the finals tipping off Friday night, Feb. 24.

CMSV Dolphins make a splash

The College of Mount Saint Vincent women’s basketball team, winners of nine of its last 11 games, are in the homestretch of the regular season with just four games remaining before the Skyline Tournament commences.

The Dolphins (13-7, 9-4) are nestled in fourth place in the conference, a half game behind third-place Sage College and a game behind second-place Old Westbury. Led by seniors Christina Barone and Brittany Carroll, the Dolphins are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 8 when they travel to the Merchant Marine Academy before returning home to host Purchase Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. The Dolphins will close out the regular season with a road game at Yeshiva on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. before wrapping things up with the final home game vs. Farmingdale on Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon.

The Skyline Conference Tournament will then tip off with the first round on Tuesday, Feb. 21 followed by the semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 23 and the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 25.
