The Bronx is burning ... from fossil fuel(Page 3 of 3)
By Kristin Hart Posted 3/28/12
The truth is, our self-interest — both as individuals and as a community — is much better served by a strong, healthy Bronx than by the option of having a perfect (though probably modified and definitely over-packaged) tomato delivered to our homes. We should demand that our taxpayer money be used, instead, to develop the Bronx waterfront responsibly. So take that coupon from Fresh Direct, fold it up into a paper boat, and float it down the river. Oh no, wait: you can’t get to the river. So recycle it. And take a walk to your local grocer. Join the Fresh Direct boycott by visiting www.boycottfreshdirect.com and signing the petition. Kristin Hart is president of the Fort Independence Park Neighborhood Association. The Idling of these trucks at every delivery stop (usually a building) violates NYC laws. With asthma and air pollution a huge problem in NYC, the Bronx in particular, it is quite frustrating that the city not only allows it, it pushes this company into our lungs. How ironic to call them "Fresh direct." We dont have enough money in the budget to make class sizes smaller, but tax breaks - always. The mayor's priorities continue to perplex. I am ready for a change in leadership! Saturday, April 21, 2012|Report this
