THE FILM Club at the Riverdale- Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture will host a screening of the 1997 British film My Son the Fanatic, at the meeting house, 4450 Fieldston Road, on Saturday, July 24, at 7 p.m. This romantic drama centers around the bittersweet story of a secular Pakistani taxicab driver working in London and his burgeoning friendship with a local prostitute, as he tries to seek emotional refuge from his estranged family and only son, who is slowly converting to radical Islam. My Son the Fanatic is rated R and has a running time of 86 minutes. There is no charge to attend, but a donation of $3 to $5 toward the Film Club will be accepted at the door. THE RIVERDALE Rising Stars, a teen theater company at the Riverdale YM-YWHA, will conclude its production of Rent: School Edition, with the final performance scheduled for today, Thursday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m., in the Neuwirth Theatre, 5625 Arlington Ave. Rent, which won a Tony Award for Best Musical during a 12-year run on Broadway, is a rock opera about a group of young artists and musicians struggling with life, love and the impact of AIDS, while living in New York’s Bohemian East Village. This show contains mature themes and is not recommended for young children.
