The Grand and Glorious Army of the Bronx' takes to the streets of Marble Hill

Posted

Angel Hernandez, a Bronx historian (wearing viking helmet) leads 'The Grand and Glorious Army of the Bronx' in a march to plant the Bronx flag in Marble Hill and reclaim the land for the mainland borough. Originally part of Manhattan, it was attached to the Bronx when the Harlem River Ship Canal rerouted the river in 1895. Years of litigation followed and it was not until 1984 that Marble Hill was formally awarded to Manhattan. But the revanchist group refuses to let the matter lie, vowing to return every year until the hillock is liberated and, meanwhile, continue gathering for beers at Mr. Magoo's Pub.
