Trial of alleged B’way rapist approaches

The man who allegedly raped a 28-year old woman at two Broadway locations last year is heading to court next week.

Rashad Givens faces a pretrial hearing on two counts of first-degree rape and at least 11 other charges at Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday, May 3. He has pleaded not guilty, according to the Bronx district attorney’s office.

A criminal complaint states that Mr. Givens pulled the victim to a construction site at 6155 Broadway around 2 a.m. on July 11, 2015, displayed a knife and said, “I will cut you.” He allegedly proceeded to sexually assault her. A second sexual assault occurred by about 5 a.m., according to the complaint.

The document states that Officer Rosa Almonte recovered a piece of clothing from the woman and submitted it to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for forensic and biological testing. Testing reportedly yielded a match with Mr. Givens’ DNA.

The Press previously quoted other news outlets as saying the victim was raped at 6155 and 6065 Broadway, but the complaint only cites the former address, where construction on an 11-story apartment building is nearly complete.

The complaint said that Mr. Givens, who is represented by a lawyer from the Bronx Defenders, pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault in the Bronx in April 2014.

The lawyer, Arthur Brian, was not available for an interview.

NYPD crime stats showed 17 incidents of rape last year and two so far this year within the confines of the 50th Precinct, which covers the northwest Bronx.
