Trouble reaching a Monte site? New shuttle can help

The Montefiore Medical System is offering a free shuttle bus that picks up patients at sites including its Johnson Avenue office and takes them to other Monte facilities.

Organizers said the goal is to relieve patients of the need to commute by costly cabs or long bus rides. The routes will run five times a day and each shuttle can accommodate up to 20 people.

Officials including northwest Bronx Councilman Andrew Cohen announced the new shuttle at a press conference at Monte’s 3510 Johnson Ave. office on Monday.

“This is going to make the entire Montefiore system more accessible to my constituents,” said Mr. Cohen, who explained that resident Pearl Korn brought the need for a shuttle bus to his attention.

At the press conference, she recounted the burdens of commuting from the northwest Bronx to the Einstein/Montefiore Division of Critical Care Medicine in Williamsbridge.

“I remembered going to Einstein for an appointment that took 10 minutes and it took me seven hours’ round trip to get there,” Ms. Korn said.
