A new name adorns the post at the intersection of West 238th Street and Waldo Avenue — Andrew Sandler Way. It was unveiled at a ceremony in April where elected officials led by Councilman Andrew Cohen and others gathered to honor Sandler’s memory with a gleaming green street sign. Sandler — who, before becoming the Community Board 7 district manager, was ubiquitous in Riverdale as the chief of staff for Councilman Oliver Koppell — died last year, but Cohen sidestepped typical street-naming guidelines to get this neighborhood near his old hangout, An Beal Bocht Café, to recognize him now.
