Herb Greenberg, the founder of Caliper Corporation and formerly from Brooklyn, presented the first winner of the Herb Greenberg Caliper Scholarship to Ariel Karten, a sophomore at CCNY and resident of Riverdale.

Ariel Karten of Riverdale standing next his mother was presented with the scholarship award at Caliper’s corporate headquarters in Princeton, NJ on Wednesday, May 30th by Herb Greenberg, founder and CEO of Caliper Corporation.

Ariel Karten is a sophomore at CCNY, majoring in biology and psychology. “The scholarship from Caliper will help me to continue fulfilling my goals and aspirations,” he said. “CCNY is dedicated to giving everyone the chance to achieve success through education, regardless of their circumstances. I am honored to be recognized in this way.”

Caliper established the scholarship to honor Dr. Greenberg, founder and CEO of the firm, on the occasion of the company’s 50th anniversary last year. Dr. Greenberg received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from CCNY, and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa during his undergraduate years. He eventually earned a Ph.D. with highest honors in human relations and psychology from New York University. Later, he developed the Caliper Profile, a workplace personality assessment which has uncovered the potential of 3.5 million job applicants and employees from around the world.

“Even before Caliper was a glint in my eye, I had the privilege of attending CCNY,” said Dr. Greenberg. “The college offered me a tuition-free opportunity, and I got the best education I could ever have dreamed of receiving. It’s gratifying to help current students enjoy the same opportunity,” he said.
