The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch from late Monday night through late Tuesday night, warning of heavy snowfalls and powerful winds.

The nor’easter is expected to make travel hazardous on Tuesday.

“We’re preparing for a significant storm on Tuesday, and New Yorkers should also prepare for snow and dangerous road conditions,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement. “Besides the snow, it will be cold. We urge you to avoid unnecessary travel and help keep roads clear for Sanitation crews and first responders.”

The city’s Emergency Management also urged New Yorkers to prepare for “extremely cold” temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper twenties on Tuesday, with lows Tuesday night in the low twenties. Temperatures are forecast to be at or around freezing on Wednesday.
