Boro prezes say no to CB term limits

Posted

An effort to force members of community boards into eight-year term limits has earned some opposition from four borough presidents.

Bronx borough president Ruben Diaz Jr., joined his counterparts Gale Brewer in Manhattan, Melinda Katz in Queens and James Oddo in Staten Island, to express their dislike for term limits to the city’s charter review commission.

The primary issue, they say, comes to land use committees, which they described as the “single most important function of community boards.”

Voters are being asked to decide whether to force community board members into eight-year term limits — granting them four two-year terms. They would be allowed to re-apply to the board after a two-year break.
