CARTER BURDEN GALLERY ANNOUNCES NEW EXHIBITIONS BY RE-EMERGING OLDER ARTISTS

Posted

Three new exhibitions featuring the unique artwork of re-emerging older artists will be on display October 5th through 26th at the Carter Burden Gallery, located at 548 West 28th Street #534 in Manhattan. The Carter Burden Gallery showcases the vibrant, cutting-edge and transformative art that is the product of the unique cultural wealth possessed by older professional artists.

EXHIBITS: In the East Gallery, Werner Bargsten and Charles Ramsburg present In the Dark: Packages & Shadows, an assemblage of ceramics and drawings. Bargsten’s clay sculptures bound in copper are inspired by childhood memories of the rich, black, Iowa dirt of his family’s farm. Snapshots of “inner life,” Bargsten’s work invites viewers to recognize their own unconscious, human stories.

Ramsburg's delicate, dark and quiet drawings from his series Blind Spot are inspired by the verticality, shadows, and water of his cabin in the Adirondacks. Also featured in the exhibition are Pathing Sticks, which draw on the esoteric and functional history of the walking staff to join the stillness of an inanimate object with the movement for which it is intended.

In the West Gallery, painter Danny Turitz presents work from his series Carts. Featuring intimate oil paintings, this is Turitz’ first solo exhibition at the Carter Burden Gallery. Using mystery and metaphor, the “homeless shopping carts” that Turitz masterfully paints are seemingly neutral objects that take on an importance beyond the obvious.

In On the Wall, photographer Eward Fausty presents Worlds, a sinuous installation in which hundreds of photographic images are displayed on an accordion folded book. Fausty uses landscapes done with a fisheye lens to replicate the wonder of seeing our planet from above and pondering our footprint upon it.
