CB8 hires Ciara Gannon as new district manager

Posted

At long last, Community Board 8 has found its new district manager.

The board selected Ciara Gannon to fill that role Tuesday night after a seven-month search. She’ll earn $75,000 a year and start June 11.

The Woodlawn native attended DeWitt Clinton High School and Siena College outside of Albany, later working for state Sen. Jeffrey Klein.

She currently assists the town administrator in New Castle, but said she’s looking forward to serving the borough where she was born and raised.

All but one of the board members present who voted — Tao Moran — voted in favor of Gannon. Sergio Villaverde, chair of the economic development committee, abstained.

“Nothing against Ciara, but if you’re choosing someone, there should be a choice,” Villaverde said, adding he wished there’d been at least one other candidate to consider that evening.

The board unanimously approved Gannon’s salary, which matches what CB8 offered its previous district manager, Michael Heller, last year. Heller only stayed on for a few months before departing.

Dan Padernacht, chair of the district manager selection committee, needed but a single word to sum up how he felt at the culmination of a long search for CB8’s fourth district manager in the last three years: “Elation.”

And Ginty, battling a “splitting headache,” said she was “relieved” the board had finally filled the position.

It was all still sinking in for Gannon, laconic in describing her thoughts at the end of a long evening.

“Excited,” Gannon said, adding, “I’m looking forward to working with everyone on the board.”
