Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi makes Hebrew Home stop

She wanted to see the facility where Grandparents Day was born, and with it came the grand tour.

Democratic Minority Leader and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stopped by the Hebrew Home at Riverdale on Monday to visit with more than 100 residents and a couple dozen students at the Palisade Avenue campus.

While she tried to steer clear of politics, Pelosi thanked residents there for helping to keep U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel in Congress, even touting that he could indeed become the next chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, if Democrats are successful in taking back the House in November.

Hebrew Home chief executive Daniel Reingold pointed out during the visit that Pelosi's home state of California is filled with continuing care retirement communities, something he hopes Hebrew Home will be lead the way in for New York City through a controversial plan to expand the campus.
