Knocked down, robbed, charged

The New York Police Department cautions people to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and look out not just for their personal belongings, but for their safety as well — even in tonier neighborhoods like Riverdale.

One 71-year-old woman probably wishes she’d been a little more vigilant, or that someone had been looking out for her. She told police she was walking to her car in the parking lot behind the Key Food supermarket at 540 W. 235th St., on Feb. 28 at around 7:15 p.m., when a man cops described as possibly in his 20s and 6 feet tall, pushed her to the ground and snatched her pocketbook before fleeing westward out of the lot.

The lady wasn’t carrying cash, cops said, but the pocketbook held her wallet, where she stashed her Social Security card, driver’s license, and multiple credit cards.

Afterward, she found an unauthorized $1,050 charge to one of them.

Detectives are investigating the robbery.

Broken glass, in and out

Breaking in through the window seems to be an all-too-popular method among thieves in this part of the Bronx these days.

A 26-year-old man learned that the hard way after leaving his apartment on the 2800 block of Sedgwick Avenue at around 9 the evening of March 2, police said, possibly for a night out on the town.

He returned the next morning at around 4, only to find one of his living room windows smashed.

But the mystery perp didn’t stop there, looting two pairs of Louis Vuitton shoes, three gold bracelets, two pairs of sneakers, four gold rings, and a Fendi belt. In all, police said the perps grabbed about $7,700 worth of property before reportedly slipping out through a different window opening onto a fire escape.

The burglary — which the guy didn’t report to cops until a couple days later — remains open to detectives.
