Longtime volunteer Marcia H. Federman, 95

Marcia H. Federman peacefully passed away on Jan. 18, 2018.

Known for always having a smile, wonderful welcome and quest for adventure, she was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on Sept. 6, 1922. She had been a long-time resident of Riverdale, and was loved and admired by all who met her.

Survivors include sons Michael, Peter (Katharine), Charles (Bonnie) and Bill (Tammy); grandchildren Piera, Peter, Eric, Rebecca, Shira, Samantha, Max and Barak “Bear”; step-grandchildren Amanda (Marko); great-step-grandchildren Savannah and Scarlet.

She was active in numerous charitable and social organizations including the Dobbs Ferry and national Woman’s Club, B’nai B’rith, Riverdale Temple Sisterhood, and Nichibei Fukinkai.

Until her retirement, she worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

“She was very involved in the synagogue in her day and much loved by the members,” Rabbi Tom Gardner said. “She will be missed.”

Celebrations of her long, happy and giving life took place Jan. 21 in Memphis, Tennessee, and is planned for Jan. 28 at Riverdale Temple, 4545 Independence Ave., at 2 p.m. 

Internment is Feb. 4 at the Beth Israel Hartford Cemetery in Hartford, New York.

Thanks are extended to all of her caretakers and companions, including Gloria, Indie and Ashley, and those at Foxbridge Assisted Living.

In lieu of contributions, remember and memorialize Marcia by being charitable and kind and living life to its fullest extent as she did.
