PS 24 gets fresh after-school fun

Posted

There’s a new after-school program for P.S. 24 kids, and the curriculum seems endless. The Mosholu Montefiore Community Center Discovery after-school program offers activities that cater to computer, nature and music education.

It’s available through June for students from kindergarten to fifth grade.

For more information, call Saran Doumbouya at (718) 882-4000, or email her at sdoumbouya@mmcc.org.

Riverdale Country goes woodwinds wild

The Western Wind a capella sextet is scheduled to perform at this year’s Mark Sutton-Smith ’73 Assembly Concert at Riverdale Country School, 5250 Fieldston Road. It takes place Jan. 22 beginning at 9:25 a.m., at the school’s JRJ Student Center on the upper school campus.

The yearly concert is designed to enrich the community with classical music, similar to what school officials say inspired Mark Sutton-Smith to become a composer.  Sutton-Smith has produced a number of pieces, as well as two musicals — “The Usual” and “Girl Detective.”

Neighborhood House
offers academic hand

The Riverdale Neighborhood House is helping high school students with homework and test prep through its Academic Resource Center.

Walk-ins are accepted for homework help, but test preps require an appointment to receive one-on-one tutoring. Prep sessions are done in groups on a monthly basis.

The center is open from Monday through Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m., at the neighborhood house’s 5521 Mosholu Ave., location.

For more information or to sign up, call (718) 549-8100, Ext. 159, or visit RiverdaleOnline.org.
