This summer, The Riverdale Press welcomes a new reporter to its staff: Alexandra Hutzler.

A native of Miller Place on Long Island, Hutzler will enter her senior year at Manhattan College in the fall, where she is working on her bachelor’s degree in communication and English. At the school, she was editor-in-chief of The Quadrangle, Manhattan’s student newspaper, managing a 30-person staff that produced a weekly print newspaper.

Hutzler started at The Quad as the assistant features editor before moving up to features editor. She also worked as a staff writer at HerCampus.com.

Besides her work was a writer and editor, Hutzler also is the incoming captain of Manhattan’s women’s swim team. She already is an 11-time school record holder, awarded most valuable player for her achievements in the 2015-16 season.

Hutzler also spent the last five months as an intern with “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley,” working primarily with the “On the Road with Steve Hartman” unit.

Over the summer, Hutzler will fill in for reporter Anthony Capote, who will take a short break after graduating from Manhattan to spend time with his family in South Florida.

“It’s hard to imagine Riverdale politics without Anthony, but we’ll only have to manage it for a couple months,” Riverdale Press editor Michael Hinman said. “But if we can’t have Anthony out there shaking trees, then I’m glad we have someone with the talent and energy Alexandra provides to step in and fill that void, even temporarily.

“Alexandra is going to have a long and prosperous career in journalism, and I’m proud that she’s getting her professional start right here with The Riverdale Press.”

Hutzler can be reached at (718) 543-6065, Ext. 324, or at ahutzler@riverdalepress.com. Capote returns in early August.
