Registration begins at Amber Charter

The Amber Charter School in Kingsbridge has opened registration for first- and second-graders at its 3120 Corlear Ave., campus for the 2019-20 academic year.

Elementary fun erupts at SAR Academy

The second graders at Salanter Akiba Riverdale Academy are putting their acting chops to the test.

On Jan. 29 at 6 p.m., the youngsters will perform a play about the Chumash, a printed Torah, normally in book form rather than on a scroll. The fun continues Feb. 6 with a festival at the 655 W. 254th St., school at 6 p.m., when fourth-graders host their American Heritage Festival.

 

Manhattan College has diverse lectures on tap

Manhattan College’s Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education Center is overflowing with informative events.

The documentary “All Jews Out” will screen Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m., in Room 100 of Manhattan College’s Hayden Hall. It’s followed by a lecture from Emanuel Rund, the film’s director. “All Jews Out” centers on a Jewish family in Germany between 1933 and 1945.

The education continues Feb. 5 at 7 p.m., in Room 5B of Kelly Common with a lecture by Sabeeha Rehman, a Muslim woman who wrote a memoir, “Threading My Prayer Rug.” The book focuses on Rehman’s religious identity in modern America.

Both events are on the school’s 4513 Manhattan College Parkway campus, and are free and open to the public.

 

International Leadership School opens house

The International Leadership Charter High School is inviting the community inside to see what they’re all about. The 3030 Riverdale Ave., school will host open houses on both  Feb. 13 and Feb. 20

The open houses are designed to give prospective parents a chance to see what the school has to offer.

Lehman makes ACEs

The Robin Hood Foundation, which helps people living in poverty across the city, has awarded a $1.1 million grant to Lehman College to help boost its Accelerate, Complete and Engage — or ACE — program.
