RKA marches into March with fun

Posted

Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy is starting spring with a spring in its step. That’s because on March 7, RKA will host its spring dance for middle-schoolers between 5 and 8 p.m., at its 660 W. 237th St., campus.

Before that, however, sophomores and juniors will head to Mountain Creek on Feb. 29 for a trek that  will be nothing short of tubular. Snow tubular that is.

And then finally on March 23, RKA will put its skills to the test with a talent show at 2 p.m.

Riverdale freshmen get regal

The Riverdale Country School is getting fancy on Feb. 20 as ninth-graders host a dean’s cocktail party at the 5250 Fieldston Road school between 7 and 9 p.m., as a chance to dress up and party with their peers.

Riverdale also is taking time to recognize Black History Month with an assembly Feb. 20 at 9:35 a.m. After that, the school will host it’s people of color celebration from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the River Campus. The students-only event will honor the varying cultures through performances and music.

Fieldston eats with new kids

The Ethical Culture Fieldston School is welcoming their new round of lower school students with a hash brown-filled hello. The 3901 Fieldston Road school will open its doors to new students and their families at the Lower School on March 5 at 9:30 a.m.

Then on March 6, the newly admitted middle and upper Fieldston students and their families will have their welcome breakfast at 9:30 a.m.

IN-Tech goes global in cook quest

IN-Tech Academy will travel the world — not through flight, but rather by fork.

The high school students host a global cooking event on Feb. 28 beginning at 3:45 p.m., to at the Tibbett Avenue school. Students will have a chance to explore different cultures and countries through meals while learning to cook food from around the world.

Bronx Science gets funny

Parents, leave your kids at home.

The Bronx High School of Science parent’s association is hosting an adult night at Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd St., from 5 to 9 p.m., on Feb. 26. For details, visit BXSciencePA.org.

Before all that, parents are invited that Tuesday morning for coffee with the principal at the 75 W. 205th St. school to learn more about the freshmen research program. Coffee is served at 8:30 a.m.

And on Feb. 14, Bronx Science shakes it up at the 36th annual Shakespeare competition from 3 to 5 p.m., in Room 207D.

Students will memorize (and then recite) monologues from the playwright’s works for a chance to win cash prizes.

Lehman goes up, down with art

Lehman College is working with Borough of Manhattan Community College to put on a two-part art show called “Mediums of Exchange.” Work will be shown at both the 250 Bedford Park Blvd. W., and the 81 Barclay St., locations. Both events are free and open to the public.

The art is meant to focus on how money moves throughout the world.

The downtown exhibit will be open through March 30 in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center. The uptown exhibit will run through May 4 in the Lehman College Art Gallery/Fine Arts Building.

For more information, on either show, visit Lehman.edu.
