Shannon Pettypiece and Jason Fields were married Sunday at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.

The bride, 27, is a reporter for Bloomberg News where she writes about the pharmaceutical industry. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in political science.

The groom, 38, is editor of The Riverdale Press. He previously worked for The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Associated Press.

He is a graduate of St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland.

He grew up on the upper east side of Manhattan, he says, “in a spacious apartment, soaking up the culture and glamor that is New York.”

His bride, he adds, “hails from an area of Michigan that she originally claimed was Detroit, but is, in fact, down a dirt road from the nearest small town of Lake Orion.

“Ms. Pettypiece’s family did and does live in what was a oneroom schoolhouse in Oakland Township, Mich. that is more than 100 years old.”

The bride’s mother, Aileen, is a science teacher in Pontiac, Mich. Her father, Doug, is the owner of Troy Corners Door Co.

The groom’s parents, Susan and Stanley Fields, are both retired and continue to live in Manhattan. It is the first marriage for Ms. Pettypiece and the second for Mr. Fields. The groom’s son, Isaac, 9, is a student at PS 24.
