Stopping the Trump train

Posted

To the editor:

After the recent election, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s not a Trump locomotive.

I can breathe again.

Virginia’s governorship was an especially sweet win. Ed Gillespie, a relatively moderate Republican, twisted himself into a xenophobic alt-right Trumpster because he thought that’s what he had to do to win the election. The good people of Virginia taught him otherwise.

To borrow the campaign slogan from New Jersey’s newly elected Democratic governor, the people of Virginia said “We are better than this!”

Of course, we must not be so happy we become complacent. The fight has just begun to make America dignified again, the land of hope again, a land where neo-Nazis and Klansmen are not comfortable marching in the streets with torches and guns and yelling “Jews will not replace us” and other hateful slogans, because they feel they have friends in the White House … again.
